I've also been having problems with buildworld in libpam - make clean doesn't seem to get rid of some (all?) of the .a files, and buildworld trips over them next time it's run. The build goes fine if I manually remove the archive files first. I saw some mention of this on the mailing lists earlier, but never saw a reply stating what the problem was, and haven't seen any changes in CVS. The stuff that ``make clean'' doesn't remove is: lib/libpam/libpam/libpam.a lib/libpam/modules/pam_cleartext_pass_ok/libpam_cleartext_pass_ok.a lib/libpam/modules/pam_radius/libpam_radius.a lib/libpam/modules/pam_skey/libpam_skey.a lib/libpam/modules/pam_tacplus/libpam_tacplus.a lib/libpam/modules/pam_unix/libpam_unix.a file(1) reports that each of these are ``current ar archive random library''. When subsequent builds reach this point, I get: ld -o _pam_static_modules.o -r --whole-archive /usr/src/lib/libpam/libpam/../modules/pam_cleartext_pass_ok/libpam_cleartext_pass_ok.a /usr/src/lib/libpam/libpam/../modules/pam_radius/libpam_radius.a /usr/src/lib/libpam/libpam/../modules/pam_skey/libpam_skey.a /usr/src/lib/libpam/libpam/../modules/pam_tacplus/libpam_tacplus.a /usr/src/lib/libpam/libpam/../modules/pam_unix/libpam_unix.a /usr/src/lib/libpam/libpam/../modules/pam_cleartext_pass_ok/libpam_cleartext_pass_ok.a: object /usr/src/lib/libpam/libpam/../modules/pam_cleartext_pass_ok/libpam_cleartext_pass_ok.a(pam_cleartext_pass_ok.o) in archive is not object *** Error code 1 Stop.
