Idea: Maybe some kind of interference of your desktop environment that intends to mount a CD that cannot be mounted, and the command line tool trying to access a resource that is blocked due to the first thing? You should "step down" to the lowest level possible for diagnostics, i. e. running the system's command line tools to make the CD play. If _this_ works, then "go up" and test within your GUI desktop environment. The less abstraction layers are in between, the better. > and > > $ cat /dev/sndstat > FreeBSD Audio Driver (newpcm: 64bit 2009061500/amd64) > Installed devices: > pcm0: (play/rec) default > > $ mixer > Mixer vol is currently set to 100:100 > Mixer pcm is currently set to 75:75 > Mixer speaker is currently set to 75:75 > Mixer rec is currently set to 75:75 > Recording source: monitor > > no sound and no drive activity. Hmmm... I'm missing the CD in that listing. Which mixer is your default mixer? Try -f /dev/mixer0 to make sure the correct one is selected. On HDA codecs, there may be several mixers. -- Polytropon Magdeburg, Germany Happy FreeBSD user since 4.0 Andra moi ennepe, Mousa, ...
