It would be even cooler if we could convince the manufacturers to:
    a) release tech specs on the modem hardware
or
    2) release loadable modules to drive the modem chips.

There are days when I think the quality of the Linux emulation is
=too= good.  Folks just go about their business rather than
pestering OEMs for proper support.
