They ARE 10Base-T hubs, right?  (Just checking!  This is a common
mistake!)

Does the 'dmesg' output on your machine show that FreeBSD has 
recognized the 10 Mbits/sec setting?

If so, I'm stumped.  It might just be a bad card -- test it with
another OS if you can.
