installing  X  and setting up the  X-server  is not the same thing - it 
sounds to me  like u need to go  through the XF86xonfig (x-server 
setup)   again, and make sure you're putting in the right  info

but  u might  have  deeper hardware  issues - video  cards can 
mess up in 100's  if  not  1000's  of different ways
