	What I usually do:

	1. dos SCSI format utility is applied to the drive,
	   to make sure that nothing left from part. tables, etc.
	   and the drive is virgin clean.
	2. Boot FreeBSD, than do  disklabel -r -e sd1, edit to your taste.
	   (You'd probably need a bc calculator handy on another console).

	Is this approach considered harmful? I don't know, but it worked
	last time I tried it.
