Does replacing the adaptor help when the drives lock up? I doubt that. My ancient Micropolis 4345WS drive in a test computer w/ FreeBSD 4.X locks up randomly regardless of the SCSI adaptor (no RAID), I've tried three different chips, Tekram DC-390 (AMD 53C974), DC-390U (SYM53C875), Adaptec 2940UW Pro (AIC 7880) - the problem remains. Must be the drive then in my case. -- Matthias Andree
