It is my understanding that this should be possible given the recent advances in support for ICH7. I have tried unsuccessfully with FreeBSD 6_0, various 6 stable builds, and most recently with 6.1-PRERELEASE. In most cases, I just use the kernel modules, putting 'snd_ich_load="YES" ' into "/boot/loader.conf". Kldstat indicates both "snd_ich" and "sound" loaded successfully, but no driver attaches to the device according to "pciconf -vl": none0@pci0:27:0: class=0x040300 card=0x07078086 chip=0x27d88086 rev=0x01 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio' class = multimedia I have succeeded in attaching the driver by manually manipulating the chip numbers in files like such as "/usr/src/sys/dev/sound/pci/ich.c", and then recompiling the kernel. This was ultimately unsuccessful, as "cat /dev/sndstat" still showed nothing. I have also tried some of the new patches from http://people.freebsd.org/~ariff/, but none of these even get the a driver to attach to the sound device. In no case was I successful in getting FreeBSD sound from this relatively new motherboard. Any help would be much appreciated! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
