You can see if either is occuring by running "systat" in its "vmstat" mode. It'll show you something like: Interrupts 251 total ata0 irq14 23 xl0 irq15 fdc0 irq6 psm0 irq12 100 clk irq0 128 rtc irq8 on the far right.
