Actually, FreeBSD uses the HLT instruction. There is no HALT instruction on i386's. Currently actually, FreeBSD usually does about 1800 instructions of vm book keeping at the beginning of the idle loop. This is too many, and the cpu doesn't stay halted for as long as it should. Bruce
