If you didn't set it during installation (you had the option to) your root passowrd us "", so just type "root" and hit enter. (It might be a good idea to change that... type "passwd" to do it). Users are added with "adduser", you should make a non-superuser account so you don't accidently mess things up as root. If you can't remember your root password and it isn't just enter, there is a way of getting it (I won't go in to it now, but if this is the case ask and I'll mail it to you).
