man(1) is a SUID executable:
% ls -la /usr/bin/man=20
-r-sr-xr-x 1 man wheel 29752 May 23 21:59 /usr/bin/man*
Hence truss(1) and other process tracing software like gdb(1) will
refuse to show you it's inner workings on the grounds of system
security.
