If the port version doesn't build, first do a 'send-pr' to submit a bug 
so that people know that it's broken and needs to be fixed.

Second, try configuring and building the software yourself and see 
whether you can get it going by hand.

Third, ask for help and someone else who's interested will probably take 
a look.  Hopefully, this includes whoever the port-maintainer is, but...
