Switch the printer off, send a job and make sure it shows up in the queye (see lpq, and do an ls of the spool directory)... then switch the printer on and see if you get any data. If that works then the filter is screwed. As it is, if-simple doesn't do anything (ie. the one you get in /usr/share/examples/printing).
