The use of mmap for file copying http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/src/bin/cp/Makefile?only_with_tag=RELENG_3_1_0_RELEASE causes the trouble. Disabling it makes my 4.3-STABLE installation copy those files again, just like fresh installs of 2.2.8 and 3.0 releases do. Now I'm going to have some sleep... Karel.
