You could add an echo statement in the config rule (specifically the UID and INSTALL_AS_USER test) in bsd.port.mk around line 5759. I think something like this may give a better idea about the problem: echo "UID == ${UID}" Also, I assume both id -u and id -ur return 0 for you as root. Is the id you run the id in /usr/bin?
