 The system that doesn't have the problem is:

FreeBSD puddles.dignus.com 2.2.5-RELEASE FreeBSD 2.2.5-RELEASE #0: Wed Mar 18 14:31:17 EST 1998

  Unfortunately, I don't have a 2.2.6/2.2.7/2.2.8 release around to
test those...  I know, though, that 2.2.5 doesn't have the problem.
