I upgraded libxml2 and then gconf2 was able to compile OK. Just an FYI since the FreeBSD portion of the make didn't catch the version dependency problem... Also, I noticed that there was an article on Slashdot yesterday about metacity, then magically a port for metacity appeared last night!
