Well, that's not quite the way I'm doing it. By default, I make a
kernel called kernel.debug and use the following rule to create a
stripped kernel:
${KERNEL}: ${KERNEL}.debug
objcopy --strip-debug ${KERNEL}.debug ${KERNEL}
The 'install' target installs the stripped kernel, and depends on this
rule.
