The problem with the Compaq is not, that is a 
PCI 2.0 compliant systems (these are quite common),
but that the Compaq was identified as using an old
PCI configuration mechanism, when it in fact uses
the new one ...

There is modified probe code in FreeBSD-current, which 
has been successfully tested on Compaq Prosignea and 
Compaq Prolinea systems.


Don't know about you environment:

Can you build a kernel on another machine or using some 
other controller (or possible an IDE disk drive ?).

There currently is no boot floppy with the new PCI probe 
code, but I could try to build one, if this is the only
possibility to get your system installed.
