It seems that ddb is not in GENERIC.  Do you see a line like
'KDB: current backend: ddb'
near the start of the kernel output on boot ?

Then the issue might be not an issue I suspected.

Anyway, I think there is no way forward without ddb in kernel.
G4 are AIM and 32bit only, right ?
