Subject:   Advice needed: Apache / MySQL / PHP

I'm going to install Apache, MySQL, and PHP on my FreeBSD 4.3 system to 
develop a site that will be hosted elsewhere. (I'm only planning to use these 
apps in local mode and don't need to create a production environment on my 
development machine.)

I've seen occasional comments in this list saying that it is better to build 
these packages from sources than to use the ports. 

Why would this be? Just someone's personal opinion, or is there a more 
important reason?
