If you want to insert a really long comment block: : << IMPORTANT mumble bla bla bla ... IMPORTANT You can pretty much put anything you want between the: : << IMPORTANT and IMPORTANT tags. You don't have to use "IMPORTANT" either. It works with Bash; however, I am unsure of how it works with other shells. Unless you have a really long comment block, I think the "#" syntax is easier to use.
