There are several terms that will do this, although xterm is not
one of them.  Rxvt, aterm, wterm, xiterm, and eterm will do it.
Probably some more, too.  Some of these do transparency by
default, others allow a compiletime option.  Or they may not
support a color tint with the transparency.  If you have rxvt
installed, try running it with rxvt -ip.
