If and when you decide to do similar work for existing features in kbdcontrol(1) on the stable branch, I'd recommend that you mark the features as deprecated in kbdcontrol(1) for one release on the stable branch before deleting them. Sometimes, we let backward compatibility stand in the way of progress too much. Other times, we don't consider the value of backward compatibility enough. I think that the "mark as deprecated for one release" approach is a sensible middle ground. Ciao, Sheldon.
