To begin with, I filed the xorg PR for this to see what xorg maintainers 
think of this issue, if anything at all:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51648
I find it hard to believe that nobody ever fixed this issue on any 
platform where xorg is running.
