Is there anything in dmesg about an unknown card?  What does 'pciconf
-l' show?  (That last one needs to be done as root.)

Unfortunately, I can't really suggest anything except upgrading to
4.1.  There isn't much chance of this being fixed in RELENG_3 anyway,
there have been significant improvements to the sound code in RELENG_4
onwards.  If the card doesn't work in RELENG_4, that's a different
matter.
