hello, thanks for the reply ... i fixed it ... i made my dcrom as pri master 
and disabled the rest :) and it's workin' fine don't hang up anymore.

yes i have the Asus A7M266 board and but since i bought this ATA100 for an 
old PII333 i thought of trying it on my pc too and see if the machine will 
compile things faster ..... but there's no diff ... i only did it to try 
'cause on the promise ATA100 box it says "Up to 40% faster than on-board 
ATA100.

i recompiled the kernel few times ...... both do it same speed.
