I reported a problem with individual user accounts under the X windows
system when using KDE some
time ago. My problem was that when a screen saver comes on and your
using the password protection
option, or, when you simply lock the screen, your password would not be
accepted to UNLOCK the
condition and return you to the desktop.

I originally reported this on the 3.3 stable release when it was first
announced, there abouts.

Then I upgraded to 3.4 and the problem went away.

So I went back to 3.3 to try again to re-create the problem and I've
been unsuccessful in doing so.

So what's different. This time I installed ALL windows managers. Last
time it was just the KDE.
My USER with the problem is still under a BASH environment as before.

As with before under 3.3 my root account had absolutely no trouble with
passwords and KDE running.

I'm going to withdraw the bug report as it can't be re-created and I
have know idea where to look in
Linux Userland to figure it out.

On another note: XWPE doesn't work and I've submitted a bug report
covering this issue also.
When XWPE runs it seems the mouse has no control over the program.
I know from my Mandrake
distribution that this is not the case. Then remembering back to 5.2
days under LINUX with Redhat 5.2
I recall XWPE did not work under KDE but did under Window Maker.

So I try to run it under Window Maker. And it still doesn't work
right. So I DUNNO there also.
I remember when RedHat 6.0 came out, the problem resovled itself.

I belive the 5.2 era version of XWPE could be replaced with a more
modern version without fear
of retribution from USERLAND. XWPE is a high power development
environment for code hackers
like myself. I like it better than XEMACS and I'm just sick about not
being able to use it on
my FreeBSD 3.3 version. FreeBSD 3.4 showed no change either...

It was pretty RUFF times in 5.2 for KDE and GNOME. Perhaps we should
just jump the whole
thing ahead to 6.0 version code with FreeBSD 4.0 release. I hope this
is already planned.

I don't really have too many complaints about LINUX MANDRAKE 7.0 which
I just downloaded a couple
of weeks ago. The CORE complaint would have to be the LINUX KERNEL.

Which is why were now using FreeBSD. If you could just tear away the
LINUX KERNEL and
put the equivalent of Mandrake 7.0 on this box you would have it all.
You really would.

Thanks for you patients.

Charlie
