first of all, thank you Greg Smith & Brooks Davis for your advice on the rc.conf setup.
Now my card seemed to work fine. (I have two PS-CE2-10's, same symptoms)
It only looked that way :-(
- I get regular messages on the console saying: xe0: watchdog timeout; resetting card.
- pinging works fine (even with big packets)
- The card seems to lock up in a strange state when I try to telnet/ssh/ftp/traceroute to/from the laptop.
when it is locked up, ifconfig does not show any irregularities.
ifconfig xe0 down followed by ifconfig xe0 up resets the card and it gets active again (ssh session can connect and does not time out / lock or anything else unless I try to set-up another connection)
