	AMD486-66DX2, ASUS SP3G, 8MB (swap swap swap swap) DEC
	scsi-ii disk (1/2 gig sold by rod grimes about a year ago,
	whole system from him) 

	conditions were very similar each time: no one logged in,
	xdm and xserver running, quiet but for the 'make world 2>&1
	| tee make.out'

	i have to try it again now that i have 16MB ;)
