Having read through the FAQ and the handbook (/usr/share/doc/.....) of my nice new FreeBSD 2.1.0R system (ftp'd from src.doc.ic.ac.uk a few days ago), I can find no answers to this problem. I have a few binaries on a SCO box that work, but not on FreeBSD. I have compiled my own kernel and am booting from it. It contains only those bits of GENERIC that I actually have in my PC, plus PS/2 mouse and the COMPAT_IBCS2 option (in quotes) which appears to be needed for the 'ibcs2' program to work. (Also npx _is_ still there and GPL_MATH_EMULATE, although I have a 486DX) However, when I try to run these executables, I get % ./muicairs ./muicairs: Exec format error. Wrong Architecture. which puzzles me as 'file' says:- % file ./muicairs ./muicairs: Microsoft a.out separate pure segmented fixed-stack word-swapped not-stripped 286 small model executable Large Text Large Data not stripped which is also what the SCO box says (near as dammit). What worries me more is that I can't even run a 'normal' SCO executable such as 'ls'. Havong transfered that over to my FreeBSD box I get:- % ./ls Abort trap which makes me wonder if my kernel recompile actually hooked in the iBCS2 stuff. Oh yes. I have set the 'ibcs2' option in /etc/sysconfig to YES and that appears to work at boot time (gives no errors) Basically HELP! Why can't I run SCIO binaries, and what on earth is the "Microsoft a.out ...." format?
