yeah, that is what i did it works fine now, however the mail problem is 
still bugging me...

i *think* they are set correctly, here is a layout of my /etc/hosts

127.0.0.1		localhost.lovett.rice.edu localhost
128.42.161.30		lovett-2030.lovett.rice.edu lovett-2030

am i looking in the wrong place?
