One you change it, the settings get written into the /boot/kernel.conf file. Then even if your kernel config keeps it in polling mode, these kernel.conf settings "overrive.". I configured mine in a "hardwired" mode after the initial installation "just because." I haven't grepped the handbook specifically for laptop issues (to see how much is or is not there) but it certainly is a good idea. > It is also the same under 4.2R.
