What I am doing over to attemp to resolve the problem that I am having is to back out all the recent changes by supping a snapshot of the tree of 9/10/97. Thats is before the poll check ins from the multimedia mailing list I didn't receive any complaints till after the poll check in . This is not to say that the poll check in is the culprit rather my last known point of a working -current.
