Yes .. the 'config' utility used to build the system is different. Some significant structural changes were made to stable. You *must* do the following before attempting to replace a -release kernel with a -stable one .. cd /usr/src/usr.sbin/config make cleandir obj depend all install cd /sys/i386/config config YOURCONFIG (or 'GENERIC') cd /sys/compile/YOURCONFIG make depend all Also note that the database management for kernel symbols has changed .. when booting your shiny new kernel, things like 'top', 'ps', etc. will all be confused. The safest course is to do a 'make world' in /usr/src to get the updated libkvm into all the right utilities .. some of which are statically linked, michael
