I am upgrading this computer from Windows NT, where everything worked all right, so I don't suspect my problems are related to defects in the hardware. The kernel on the boot disk does not detect the IDE controller on the motherboard, which is a Cypress 82C693 multifunction chip. This means that I cannot install FreeBSD. My other option is to move an Adaptec 2940 U2W controller to the Alpha box, but I have doubts as to whether the SRM console can boot from this or not. Can anyone help me with this problem?
