It might just help. VESA is lightly used these days, mostly at boot time, and many BIOSes have really deteriorated. As long as they work with a Windows boot, they figure all is well. My ThinkPad has a BOIS that functioned, but not very well. It had a variety if issues, hte most annoying was displaying at 1024x768 (4x3) on the 1600x900 (16x9) display. The Dell may have a more serious issue. Took Lenovo almost two years to update the VESA support and by then I was running with KMS support. Of course, now that you have the KMS support working, you may not care any more than I do. -- R. Kevin Oberman, Network Engineer, Retired E-mail: rkoberman@gmail.com
