I saw the same error in my build of -stable a few days ago (maybe
4/22). It came up in a 'make kernel' from /usr/src. Running a new,
clean (make clean depend kernel modules install) build produced a
fine kernel for me.

YMMV. I haven't changed my source tree though, and I managed to get
a working kernel.
