This port has a few problems: 1) It isn't based on the latest version of the port, so there are many gratuitous diffs. 2) It uses old-style LIB_DEPENDS lines. Please update to the latest ports upgrade kit (so that you have the latest bsd.port.mk) so you can probably test this.
