For what it's worth, I have been running 6.x-stable on my mini, and haven't seen any dramatic problems with it. No panics, and I think fsck's have worked okay for me the few times I've done one. But to be honest, I am not sure that I have done all that many fsck's. I also have the line: background_fsck="NO" in my /etc/rc.conf file, on all my machines.
