Machine 2: FreeBSD laptop machine with an MA401 in client mode Machine 3: Windows XP machine with a Dell branded Orinoco gold card Machine 4: Windows XP machine with an MA401 (actually, machine 2 booted into the other partition). Machines 1, 2 and 3 all talk to each other just fine. Machine 4 refuses to associate with machine 1. It appears to seek to the correct channel, but the LED just blinks forever. One of the more interesting things to note is that Windows XP has native 802.11b support for seetting keys and discovering networks and the like. The orinoco card works with this support correctly, but the Netgear driver doesn't seem to do this. You need to use their stupid little configurator and the card looks to XP like an 802.3 card. Maybe this has something to do with it? Machine 4 used to work with a standalone access point, however, so there must be some sort of compatibility issue with hostap mode...?
