Further searching (some might even call it extensive searching) and
lots of "tried it - didn't work" later, I found a patch that allows me
to compile the MythTV port under FreeBSD/amd 64.
I extracted the patch from here:
http://www.phaze.org/mythtv/obsd_myth.patch
I couldn't find any references or credits, so I don't know who created
this patch.
The patch is in the attached file.

I have compiled MythTV, but proceeding to test it now. :-)
