FWIW, I've had pretty much the same experience, although you were more thorough than I was. I installed 5.3-R on a new motherboard with an MCP chipset and installed the net/nvnet port. No complaints, no errors, no NIC. I'm using a PCI card for the time being but I would love to hear about a way to get the onboard NIC working if there is one. JN
