As long as they keep backporting patches it seems reasonable to keep it in ports as long as the maintainer is willing. That said, there is a separate question of how useful it is. As more and more Java software removes support for JDK 6 its usefulness diminishes. I think that is the more compelling discussion about whether to keep it going and in what form.
