   Hmm; with reference to Rod's comments on 'cheap dialout modems'; lots of
   low-end 14k units won't go above 38k4 DTE, so I'd suggest that that would
   be a safe default.

Uh, I haven't seen a 38.4k limitation since V32 ages, and that is long
since gone?  All V32bis modems I have seen here have either 57.6k or 115.2k
DTE speed.  All V34 modems have 115.2k, and probably V34 is already more
than half of the sales?
