I think it happens when the weekly script is being run, which gunzips the daily logs, coalesces them into a weekly log, and gzips the result. Herte are the logs from one such reboot: > > Aug 21 23:35:14 saturn syslogd: restart > > Aug 21 23:35:14 saturn /kernel: panic: rlist_free: free start overlaps > > already freed area > > Aug 21 23:35:14 saturn /kernel: > > Aug 21 23:35:15 saturn /kernel: syncing disks... 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 > > 30 > > 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 30 giving up > > Aug 21 23:35:15 saturn /kernel: Automatic reboot in 15 seconds - press a > > key > > on the console to abort > > Aug 21 23:35:15 saturn /kernel: Rebooting... The machine is a Compaq Pentium 166 with 64 Mb of RAM, which should be enough for this site (they are by no means the biggest server we support). I first thought hardware may be the problem, but the machine runs fine the rest of the week. The OS is FreeBSD 2.2.7 (upgrading the OS is *not* an option at this stage). I checked the GNATS database, and saw a report of this problem, but there was no follow up. Any help will be appreciated.
