USB devices only work if they were connected when the system booted. If I plug in a USB mouse or a USB flash drive after the machine has booted, they don't appear. /var/log/messages doesn't even mention the device being plugged in. Also, if I put the laptop to sleep any USB devices are gone until I reboot. I keep trying new 5.x releases, and the USB problem doesn't occour, but I can't use 5.x because my network card (fxp) won't work and "fxp0: device timeout" is the reason. I'm including my rc.conf, dmesg output and my kernel config. If anyone can provide some insight I'd really appreciate it. Thanks, Ken Ebling rc.conf: hostname="laptop.deevil.org" ifconfig_fxp0="inet 192.168.0.3 netmask 255.255.255.0" defaultrouter="192.168.0.1" apm_enable="YES" linux_enable="YES" pccard_enable="YES" portmap_enable="YES" sshd_enable="YES" usbd_enable="YES" keybell="NO" kern_securelevel_enable="NO" sendmail_enable="NO" sendmail_submit_enable="YES" moused_port="/dev/psm0" moused_type="auto" moused_enable="YES" dmesg output: Copyright (c) 1992-2003 The FreeBSD Project.
