Subject: Mounting volumes with async option dangerous?

As far as i understand it now, the performance advantage of linux over
freebsd comes from asyncron io operations which are disabled by default
under freebsd and are discouraged by the mount manual ..

Is somebody using freebsd with async-io enabled for a longer period?

Greetings
