Hi ! I'm writing an article for C't (german PC magazine) about what backup program to choose for safe and complete system backups and discovered Elizabeth Zwicky's excellent article from 1991, which was presented at LISA V if I remember right, see the reference in the FreeBSD handbook. Elizabeth was so nice to give me a copy of her torture.pl script and I'm now torture testing some backup programs on different platforms (FreeBSD-current, FreeBSD-STABLE, Solaris 2.6 x86, OpenBSD, NetBSD, SuSE Linux). Starting with FreeBSD-current I discovered, that dump has it's problems with long filenames and such ... Elizabeth was very astonished about the results and wondered, why dump is so "broken" in FreeBSD-current. You can find a complete typescript session with dump and other programs on my homepage and Elizabeth's torture.pl. Would like to get some feedback from you, if/why our dump is broken and if it could be fixed. http://www.freebsd.org/~andreas/download/torture.pl http://www.freebsd.org/~andreas/download/typescript.freebsd-current-3.0-980720 Andreas /// -- Andreas Klemm http://www.FreeBSD.ORG/~andreas What gives you 90% more speed, for example, in kernel compilation ? http://www.FreeBSD.ORG/~fsmp/SMP/akgraph-a/graph1.html "NT = Not Today" (Maggie Biggs) ``powered by FreeBSD SMP'' To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hackers" in the body of the message
